A huge thank you to Mrs Ogden and Year 3 who ran the Easter draw this afternoon, delivering the prizes to the winners. Thank you so much for all the donations received in school, and for buying tickets. A fantastic £515 was raised for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. It was lovely to see so many family members in our Easter services this week. Thank you to all the children who performed beautifully.
If you are doing any sorting out over the holiday we would welcome more donations for OPAL play – action figures, cuddly toys, suitcases, items that can be used in the mud kitchen, plastic jugs, bottles and bowls. Next term we are looking to expand the zones, and have water play, a digging area, and a messy kitchen.
Can I remind all family members again not to use the car park at the start and end of the day unless by prior arrangement with the office. With the work taking place at the moment on site there are reduced spaces, and it is making the children’s entrance to school unsafe. Thank you in advance for your support.
We will also be posting our latest newsletter on dojo. Please take some time over the holiday to read it.
You can also see attached the dates for family worship next half-term.
Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing break. See you back in school on Monday 20th April.

The ATSA events all didn’t go ahead as planned this week- but Bronte and Phoebe still represented school in the mindfulness and movement session after school on Wednesday. Mr Burrows was really proud of the girls for taking part. Well done girls!
Yesterday, Mr. Grogan, Headteacher from St. George’s Central, was in school to do a presentation for the juniors regarding the re-branding of ATSA, after it has been running for 15 years.
Name: Atherton and Tyldesley Sports and Arts
Strapline: Friendship through sports, arts and community
All pupils are invited to enter the competition designing the new ATSA logo, based on the new name and ‘strapline’. All designs are to be on A4 paper – with name and school on the back of each design. For this, the children are asked to use their own creativity, and avoid using Artificial Intelligence resources. The design does not have to follow the design of the current logo in shape or size or colour scheme, but should incorporate the current offer of events. Closing date is 9.00am on Monday 30th March.
Today it has been great to see everyone in school wearing their red noses, and enjoying some fun and games in their houses.
Year 3 are still collecting ester eggs for this year’s Easter Draw. Details will come home on Monday about the sale of raffle tickets.
Next week we have our final family worship of this half-term, which will be with Y3/4. Family members are invited to join us for the worship at 9.10am, with refreshments being served beforehand in the hall. Just to remind you of the dates of our Easter Services in the final week of term- Tuesday 31st March with Y1,3,4 and 6 and Thursday 2nd April with Reception, Y2,4, and 5. We break up on Thursday 2nd April for the Easter break.
Let’s hope this beautiful weather continues into the weekend.

We started our week with the SHADES team from Manchester diocese delivering an act of worship on standing firm in power and pride. Power meaning using our strength and courage to be a changemaker- and make the world a better place. Pride meaning being happy and confident about who you are, your culture, identity, heritage, and your history. This was followed with workshops in Years 5 and 6.

As you are aware we then had an Ofsted inspection with 3 inspectors being in school on Tuesday and then 2 on Wednesday. This was a very rigorous process looking at what it’s like to be a pupil at St. Stephen’s. The lead inspector described the children as wonderful and very proud of their school. They told the inspectors how they loved the adults in school and how they care for them. They were eager with a thirst for knowledge. We look forward to sharing the report card in due course.

All families are welcome to this week's Sunday service in the school hall in celebration of Mothering Sunday. Refreshments from 9.30, service at 10.

On Monday the girls’ football team played a match against Sacred Heart, winning their match 4-1. Well done everyone. Good luck to the team tonight in their next match against Holy Family.

We have a number of ATSA events taking place next week, starting with a Kickstarterz session after school on Monday. On Tuesday Y6 will be starting a series of Sats support sessions with Wigan Warriors Community Foundation. The six-week programme helps children recognise and understand their feelings alongside fun exercises! On Wednesday afternoon a group of our Y6 pupils will also be attending their next maths reasoning club session.

We finish the week with Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. As mentioned in the message yesterday, the children come into school in their usual uniform, and can wear a red nose. This year’s red noses are a blank canvas for the children to decorate and make their own, and are available in school £2.00 each.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. To all you amazing mums I hope you have a lovely day on Sunday.

In the first game the girls played St Ambrose. This could have gone either way! The final score was 5-4 to Ambrose. The team then went on to beat St George's 6-0. Well done girls! On Monday they have their next match against Sacred Heart.
Thank you to everyone who came along to the parent/ teacher meetings on Tuesday, having the opportunity to look at your children’s books and talk to the staff. I am sure you found the meetings useful finding out how things are going at the mid point of the year.
On Wednesday we had 8 children take part in a swimming gala at the Pelican Centre. Mr. Burrows was really proud of the team, in particular Freddie S, Matilda and James for winning their heats. Well done everyone!
Everyone looked fantastic yesterday as we celebrated World Book Day in our houses. The children all had fun working on a number of activities on different texts throughout the day.
Year 3 have loved spending time in the happy hut this week. Teodora was on hand to welcome a group of them today.
It was lovely to see so many families join us for the phonics session this morning. Thank you to Mrs Deakin and Mrs Hilton for organising it. The feedback was really positive.
Year 3 are now collecting easter eggs for the draw at the end of term. All eggs and any other easter-themed gifts would be very welcome. We will be selling raffle tickets in the last 2 weeks before easter.
Next week we will be sending home information about the sale of red noses for Comic Relief. This year Comic Relief falls on Friday 20th March.
Next week on Tuesday morning family worship is with Reception. All family members are welcome to join us for worship at 9.10am. Refreshments will be available in the hall beforehand.
Please see attached a flier about breakfast clubs. If you have chance please access it via the QR code – even if you don’t currently use a breakfast club.
Have a lovely weekend.

Well done to the girls who played their first 2 football matches on Monday after school. Miss Brennan tells me they played so well. They lost their first match against Tyldesley primary 4-2. The Hindley match ended up 4-4, which was incredible because it was 4-0 to Hindley at half time. The girls battled hard to secure the draw. Good luck to the team playing again tonight against St. George’s Central and St. Ambrose Barlow.
On Wednesday we had 4 of our Y6’s out at the ATSA First Aid for Sports event. There they enjoyed practising some basic First Aid.
The pancakes certainly went down a treat on Wednesday! The children really enjoyed adding a range of toppings. Thank you so much to Charlotte for doing the shopping for the event, and to Stacie and the members from church for their support - Sandra, Janet, Jane and Nicky. I will share the total amount raised next week.
On Wednesday afternoon we had a theatre company in school for the juniors to launch this half-term’s online safety work. I hope the children have talked about this at home and the important messages shared. At the end of family worship this half-term we will share key messages for the different year groups. This will start with Years 5 & 6 next week following their family worship on Tuesday.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Parent/ teacher meetings on Tuesday next week. If you have not already done so you will need to set up your Juniper account to book this. At the beginning of February you will have received an email from Juniper to create an account. You can also use this link to access your account: https://astleysaintstephen.ovw10.juniperwebsites.co.uk/page/?title=Parents%27+Evening+Bookings&pid=956.
On Thursday we have World Book Day. The theme this year is reading for pleasure, therefore on the 5th March we will be completing activities based around our favourite books. The children can dress up like their favourite book character or wear their own clothes, it’s completely your choice.
Let’s hope we get some more lovely weather over the weekend.

As we think about the importance of children's mental health, we have focused on the theme of 'This is my place' and belonging. We recognise that when children and young people feel safe, included, and supported, they are better able to regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and truly thrive. Here is a link to resources you may wish to look at at home:
Congratulations everyone! Some of the boys even managed to get a photo with Ella Toone! Good luck to the team in their next match on Monday against Sacred heart. On Monday we also had a group of Y6 girls taking part in a lacrosse taster session. It was lovely to hear that the girls were commended on their attitude and manners. Well done!

On Tuesday morning we had many of our family members from Year 1 & 2 join us for worship. This week we have used the story of Ruth and Naomi to remind us about thinking of others before ourselves.

On Wednesday Mrs Peake accompanied some of our Year 4 girls at a Zumba taster session. She was really impressed with the group and they had a great time. Again family members are invited to join us in the hall for refreshments before the performance at 9.15am.
Next week is the last week of the current after-school clubs (with the exception of choir) and a letter will come home at the start next week about next half-term’s clubs. I have a few messages to share with you before we go into the weekend. I’ve attached a photo from the darts taster session on Tuesday. Mr Burrows was really pleased with how the girls took part in the session, even winning the little competition at the end. Today Deyaan, Lara and Albie have been out of school taking part in a circus skills workshop. You can also see a before and after shot of the Polytunnel area that we cleared at the weekend.

We have had 3 teaching days of the songs with Jess from iSingPOP, and we are now excited to see everything come together in our concerts next Tuesday. Tickets are still available to buy on ParentPay, £2.00 each. Everyone attending the concert will need a ticket. On Monday we will let you know if there are any tickets remaining. The orders have now closed for the party-style lunch for Tuesday. Due to the sound engineer being in school setting up in the hall, the children are all eating their lunch in the classrooms on Tuesday.

Bishop Mark will be joining us on Wednesday morning to officially open the spiritual space – the happy hut – and the nursery. The happy hut is something our current ethos team, as well as last year’s, have been planning. The pupils will be welcoming Bishop Mark to St. Stephen’s.

This week Mr. Burrows was out of school with a group of Y6 pupils on a padel taster session earlier in the week. He was really proud of the team and how they conducted themselves. They all had a great time.
Yesterday I accompanied Miss Quinn and our Singing Club as they entertained a packed café at Dam House. You all sang beautifully. Well done everyone!

Please remind the children about the ATSA logo competition. The deadline for entries is Monday 30th March at 9.00am.

Year 3 are still collecting easter eggs ahead of their draw. Entry into the draw is 50p per entry. The draw will take place on our last day next week, Thursday 2nd April.

Can I remind all family members about parking considerately around school. I received a message from a resident this week on Penketh Avenue, who couldn’t get off their drive at school collection time. Concerns were raised about blocking drives and double -parking.

Next week we have our Easter Services. Family members are invited to join us for these. They are taking place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Year 4 will be leading both services. On Tuesday morning they will be accompanied by Years 1,3 and 6. On Thursday morning they will be accompanied by Reception, Years 2 and 5. The services will start at 9.15am, and refreshments will be on sale beforehand.

After-school clubs have now finished, other than Rees Sports. These sessions will still take place next week.

Have a lovely weekend, and we will see you on Monday morning for the final week of this term.
