Miss.Reynolds Phonics Group

Good Morning!

I will be setting your phonics activities for the week. They will all be located on this page. If you have any questions, concerns or problems please send me a Dojo message. Thanks Mrs.Howarth

Monday 18th January

Today’s phonics focus is to learn the alternative pronunciation for ‘ie’. It can say 2 sounds depending upon the word it is in. ‘ie’ and ‘ee’.

1. Let’s start with flash card speed challenge. How many flash cards can you read in 2 minutes? Choose the phase 5 option. You will need the username: jan21 and password: home. Click on the link below

2. Alternative pronunciation ‘ie’. Watch the video to find out more.

3. Finally complete the alternative pronunciation ‘ie’ worksheet. Remember to send it to me on dojo so that I can see your super work.

Tuesday 19th January

Today’s phonics focus is to learn the alternative pronunciation for ‘ea’. It can say 3 sounds depending upon the word it is in, ‘e’, ‘ai’ and ‘ee’.

1. Here is a tricky word rap. It is important we practice these words regularly as they cannot be sounded out to read or spell. So these words need to be remembered, as camera words.

2. Next watch the video. Alternative pronunciation ‘ea’. Start off by revising a past alternative pronunciation ‘c’, then move onto todays alternative pronunciation ‘ea’

3. Finally complete the alternative pronunciation ‘ea’ worksheet. I have uploaded the downloadable version, and the online version for you to choose. If you are downloading you will need this code to email it to me: 81yrmqmo8pc.

There is no expectation to print off any of the sheets. You can print, write onto the sheet on your device, write onto a piece of paper, or in a work book and send a picture, or simply spell the words/sentences onto Dojo and send. Do whichever works best for you.

Phonics is a crucial skill for your child. Please ensure that these activities are completed independently, although they may help to understand what to do, they must read and write the sounds by themselves in order to practise these crucial skills. At this stage we do not expect that words are spelled correctly, but are spelled phonetically.

Friday 22nd January

Today’s phonics focus is to practise all of the alternative pronunciations we have learned this week (there may even be 1 or 2 thrown in from last week too).

1. Let’s start by practising the sounds we know. I have discovered a new phonics website and signed everybody up. To log in you need your child’s initials and the password Stephens123. Let me know if you have any problems logging in. Click on the link below.

Next practise reading and sorting some alternative words. Choose from ie, ea, a, y. Play with the cheeky chimps phonics play. Click on the link below.

Finally revise the alternative pronunciations you have learned so far on this online quiz. Make sure you read the instructions for each question carefully and most importantly complete it by yourself. Some of the questions you need to pop the answer in, and for some you need to choose the answer. You will need the room number STSY2 and then enter your name. Click on the link below.

A note about next week’s phonics….

I will be uploading next week’s phonics activities onto dojo, not on the school website. An activity will appear on your child’s portfolio as a ‘to do’. You will be able to access the links, sheets etc via the ‘to do’.

All of the other subjects will remain on the school web page.
