Mrs Howarth's Phonics Group

Good Morning!

Phonics each day will be set by Mrs.Howarth. If you have any problems, concerns or questions don't hesitate to contact me via Dojo. I will also mark your child's phonics work and provide their feedback.

Tuesday 11th January

Today’s phonics focus sound is ‘ue’. This is one we learned just before Christmas, but struggled with. This digraph can say 2 different sounds. It can say an ‘oo’ sound, or it can say a ‘yoo’ sound.

1. Let’s start with a bit of singing this morning. Here is the tricky word song. Remember to look at the word as it comes up, and to try to remember the spelling as a camera word.

2. Next watch the video for todays sound 'ue'. What 2 sounds can it make? We have 2 different actions. The action for the 'oo' sound pretend you have a glue stick in one hand, and your other hand is the piece of paper. Pretend to spread the glue stick around the page. The action for ‘yoo’ put your hand together and move them from your shoulders out stretched in front of you. You are creating a long queue with your arms.

3. Finally complete the ‘ue' worksheet. Remember to send it to Mrs.Howarth on Dojo.

There is no expectation to print off any of the sheets. You can print, write onto the sheet on your device, write onto a piece of paper, or in a work book and send a picture, or simply spell the words/sentences onto Dojo and send. Do whichever works best for you.

Phonics is a crucial skill for your child. Please ensure that these activities are completed independently, although they may help to understand what to do, they must read and write the sounds by themselves in order to practise these crucial skills. At this stage we do not expect that words are spelled correctly, but are spelled phonetically.
