Children should be reading books at pink or red level. Children should be able to read CVC words and most of the Rec tricky words. They should know their letter sounds and use phonics to decode simple words. In class they should sit and listen attentively to stories, joining in with rhymes and repetitions. They should talk about the main events in a text and discuss events. Children should be able to retell a simple story in order. Children should handle books independently, looking at pictures and reading simple texts.
