Red Phonics Group

Good morning.

This is our last phonics lesson for this week. You have done a great job! Remember if you have any questions, problems or concerns, send me a Dojo.

Friday 15th January

Today’s phonics focus is to practise segmenting (splitting a word into different sounds) and blending (putting sounds back together to make a word). This is a super important skill that you were starting to get so good at just before Christmas. We need to practise this skill everyday

1. Let’s start today with a video to help to practise segmenting. Today you can have fun and join in, grab 2 pans and see if you can segment the words.

2. Next practise the blending and segmenting that we have been learning about all week. Have a go at this game. Sound out the letters in the word, and blend them back together all by yourself. Then see if you can match the picture to the word you have just read. Click on the link below.

3. Finally have a go at finding just the end sound of the word. We have practised this lots in school. The link for the worksheet is below.

Above is the link to take you to the online worksheet. There is the option to download. Just above the worksheet there are some blue links. One says download as PDF. If completed live, the worksheet will mark the top 2 sections for you.  If you click on the finish button it will give you the option to email the sheet to me. You will need to code 81yrmqmo8pc to do that. Or if you prefer you can take a screen shot or photo of your device and send on dojo.

There is no expectation to print off any of the sheets. You can print, write onto the sheet on your device, write onto a piece of paper, or in a work book and send a picture, or simply spell the words/sentences onto Dojo and send. Do whichever works best for you.

Phonics is a crucial skill for your child. Please ensure that these activities are completed independently, although they may help to understand what to do, they must read and write the sounds by themselves in order to practise these crucial skills.
