By the end of Year 3:

• Children should produce a side or more of A4 writing that is clear and coherent
• Basic punctuation should be mainly correct, including commas in lists (80% correct)
• Children should be beginning to use paragraphs
• They can use the correct organisation for the text type.
• Can develop characters and describe settings, feelings/emotions
• Use a wider range of connectives
• Use adjectives and adverbs for description
• Can use ambitious and interesting words
• Handwriting should be neat and joined
