Yellow Phonics Group

Good Morning!

I will be setting your phonics activities for the week. They will all be located on this page. If you have any questions, concerns or problems please send me a Dojo message. Thanks Mrs.Howarth

Monday 18th January

Today’s phonics focus is to make sure that we know and are using the phase 3 graphemes in our reading, but more importantly in our spellings. We are going to have lots of practise with this, this week.

1. Let’s start with flash card speed challenge. How many flash cards can you read in 2 minutes? Choose the phase 3 option to make sure that you haven’t forgotten them. You will need the username: jan21 and password: home. Click on the link below

2. Let’s have a race in space and practise spelling some words with phase 3 sounds. Remember to sound the words out by yourself. Let me know how you got on. Click on the link below.

3. Finally let’s put everything to practise by reading and writing words with the phase 3 sounds. I have added both the downloadable version and the online version, for you to choose.

There is no expectation to print off any of the sheets. You can print, write onto the sheet on your device, write onto a piece of paper, or in a work book and send a picture, or simply spell the words/sentences onto Dojo and send. Do whichever works best for you.

Phonics is a crucial skill for your child. Please ensure that these activities are completed independently, although they may help to understand what to do, they must read and write the sounds by themselves in order to practise these crucial skills. At this stage we do not expect that words are spelled correctly, but are spelled phonetically.

Tuesday 19th January

Today’s phonics focus is to make sure that we know and are using the phase 3 graphemes in our reading, but more importantly in our spellings. We are going to have lots of practise with this, this week.

1. Here is a tricky word rap. It is important we practice these words regularly as they cannot be sounded out to read or spell. So these words need to be remembered, as camera words.

2. Next help to rescue a rocket and practise spelling some words with phase 3 sounds. Remember to sound the words out by yourself. Let me know how you got on. Click on the link below.

3. Finally let’s put everything to practise by reading and writing words with the phase 3 sounds. I have uploaded both a downloadable version and the online version for you to complete the one you prefer. Here is the code to email me 81yrmqmo8pc if you complete the online version.

There is no expectation to print off any of the sheets. You can print, write onto the sheet on your device, write onto a piece of paper, or in a work book and send a picture, or simply spell the words/sentences onto Dojo and send. Do whichever works best for you.

Wednesday 20th January

Today’s phonics focus is to make sure that we know and are using the phase 3 graphemes in our reading, but more importantly in our spellings. We are going to have lots of practise with this, this week.

1. First, practise reading those tricky words that you were rapping about yesterday. Choose the phase 3 words. Click on the link below.

3. Next sail a Viking boat, spelling words as you go. Choose phase 3, ai, igh, oo oa. Click on the link below.

4. Finally let’s put everything to practise by reading and writing words with the phase 3 sounds. I have uploaded both a downloadable version and the online version for you to complete the one you prefer. Here is the code to email me 81yrmqmo8pc if you complete the online version.

Thursday 21st January

Today’s phonics focus is to make sure that we know and are using the phase 3 graphemes in our reading, but more importantly in our spellings. We are going to have lots of practise with this, this week.

1. First practise spelling some tricky words. Click on year 1, then the first bird box ( a salmon pink colour). Click on ‘go’. Look at the word and remember the letters you need to spell it. When you click on a letter, the word will disappear. Spell that word.

2. Next this game tests your memory skills and your reading skills! Click on a card and it will turn over. Click on a second card, you are aiming to match the word and the picture. Try to remember where the pictures and words are, so that you can match them. It get’s easier, the more cards you have matched. Good luck!

3.  Finally you have an online quiz today. Make sure you think of the answers by yourself! Read the instructions for each question carefully and most importantly complete it by yourself. Follow the link below, then you will need the room number STSY2. Once you have done this enter your name.

Optional activity

For fun Complete the ‘air’ word search (this is one of the trickier graphemes to remember).

This is an online activity. Follow the link below, then this pathway. Click on English Games, then click on phonics finder. Choose 'air' then hunt for the hidden air words, in the word search.

Please ensure that these activities are completed independently, although they may help to understand what to do, they must read and write the sounds by themselves in order to practise these crucial skills. Friday 22nd January

Today’s phonics focus is to revise and apply all of the phase 3 graphemes we have learned. It’s all fun and games today – the best way to revise!

1. Let’s start by warming those brains up and practising the sounds you know. Choose phase 3.

2. Next practise spelling words with the sounds we have learned. I have discovered a new phonics website and signed everybody up. To log in you need your child’s initials and the password Stephens123. Let me know if you have any problems logging in.

This is a great game to practise your recognition of the sounds and spelling. Make a phonics word. Choose phase 3 and any of the sounds.

3.  After that, practise adding sound buttons and sound bars under words – this is a skill that helps you to segment a word into it’s different parts. This supports spelling skills.

A sound button goes under an individual letter that makes one sound.

A sound bar goes under 2 or more letters which go together to make 1 sound.

It is on the same website as above, and so you will need the log in details. Choose phase 3 and any of the sounds.

3.  Finally, have a bit of fun by playing hangman. Click on the link below.

Phonics is a crucial skill for your child. Please ensure that these activities are completed independently, although they may help to understand what to do, they must read and write the sounds by themselves in order to practise these crucial skills. A note about next week’s phonics….

I will be uploading next week’s phonics activities onto dojo, not on the school website. An activity will appear on your child’s portfolio as a ‘to do’. You will be able to access the links, sheets etc via the ‘to do’.

All of the other subjects will remain on the school web page.
