Well done to the girls who played their first 2 football matches on Monday after school. Miss Brennan tells me they played so well. They lost their first match against Tyldesley primary 4-2. The Hindley match ended up 4-4, which was incredible because it was 4-0 to Hindley at half time. The girls battled hard to secure the draw. Good luck to the team playing again tonight against St. George’s Central and St. Ambrose Barlow.
On Wednesday we had 4 of our Y6’s out at the ATSA First Aid for Sports event. There they enjoyed practising some basic First Aid.
The pancakes certainly went down a treat on Wednesday! The children really enjoyed adding a range of toppings. Thank you so much to Charlotte for doing the shopping for the event, and to Stacie and the members from church for their support - Sandra, Janet, Jane and Nicky. I will share the total amount raised next week.
On Wednesday afternoon we had a theatre company in school for the juniors to launch this half-term’s online safety work. I hope the children have talked about this at home and the important messages shared. At the end of family worship this half-term we will share key messages for the different year groups. This will start with Years 5 & 6 next week following their family worship on Tuesday.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Parent/ teacher meetings on Tuesday next week. If you have not already done so you will need to set up your Juniper account to book this. At the beginning of February you will have received an email from Juniper to create an account. You can also use this link to access your account: https://astleysaintstephen.ovw10.juniperwebsites.co.uk/page/?title=Parents%27+Evening+Bookings&pid=956.
On Thursday we have World Book Day. The theme this year is reading for pleasure, therefore on the 5th March we will be completing activities based around our favourite books. The children can dress up like their favourite book character or wear their own clothes, it’s completely your choice.
Let’s hope we get some more lovely weather over the weekend.

Here are a few photographs from events this week. On Wednesday morning we started with a brass performance from Year 4 pupils. I am really proud of the way they all performed. Well done everyone! We had 2 of our Year 6 pupils taking part in an orienteering session on Wednesday after school. Mr Lawrenson was really proud of the boys, in particular their enthusiasm.
Our latest newsletter has been uploaded to the website. Please take some time to read it. There is information about when we will be having pancakes in school, and about World Book Day. - https://astleysaintstephen.ovw10.juniperwebsites.co.uk/newsletters

As we think about the importance of children's mental health, we have focused on the theme of 'This is my place' and belonging. We recognise that when children and young people feel safe, included, and supported, they are better able to regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and truly thrive. Here is a link to resources you may wish to look at at home:

This week we have welcomed Allesshia to St. Stephen’s as our new chef. At the moment Lou is supporting Allesshia in her new role.

We are really proud of the boys’ football team who secured their first win against St. Ambrose Barlow on Monday, with a final score of 5-2. Congratulations everyone! Some of the boys even managed to get a photo with Ella Toone! Good luck to the team in their next match on Monday against Sacred heart. On Monday we also had a group of Y6 girls taking part in a lacrosse taster session. It was lovely to hear that the girls were commended on their attitude and manners. Well done!

On Tuesday morning we had many of our family members from Year 1 & 2 join us for worship. This week we have used the story of Ruth and Naomi to remind us about thinking of others before ourselves.

On Wednesday Mrs Peake accompanied some of our Year 4 girls at a Zumba taster session. She was really impressed with the group and they had a great time. Well done everyone! Zech was the first member of our school to win the golden welly award this week.

Next week is our last week before the half-term break. On Tuesday morning we have family worship with Years 3 & 4. All family members are welcome to join us in the hall for refreshments beforehand. On Wednesday morning  we look forward to year 4’s first brass performance. Again family members are invited to join us in the hall for refreshments before the performance at 9.15am. On Wednesday afternoon members from Church will be leading ‘Open the Book’ worship. On Thursday we have our school discos. You can continue to make the £3.00 payment on ParentPay. Junior children will have a ticket given to them, and Infant children will go on our list in school.

Next week is the last week of the current after-school clubs (with the exception of choir) and a letter will come home at the start next week about next half-term’s clubs. Next week is Children’s Mental Health week, and the theme this year is ‘This is my place’. We will be focusing on this and sharing some resources with you. It is also safer internet day next week, and we will share more information about this with you next week.

Looking ahead to next half-term, our next parent/teacher meetings are being held on Tuesday 3rd March from 2.00pm. Following the launch of our new website, you will have received an email from Juniper to create an account. It is important you set up your account prior to the booking system becoming live. You can also use this link to access your account: https://astleysaintstephen.ovw10.juniperwebsites.co.uk/page/?title=Parents%27+Evening+Bookings&pid=956

    Good afternoon,
I have a few messages to share with you before we go into the weekend. I’ve attached a photo from the darts taster session on Tuesday. Mr Burrows was really pleased with how the girls took part in the session, even winning the little competition at the end. Today Deyaan, Lara and Albie have been out of school taking part in a circus skills workshop.  You can also see a before and after shot of the Polytunnel area that we cleared at the weekend.

We have had 3 teaching days of the songs with Jess from iSingPOP, and we are now excited to see everything come together in our concerts next Tuesday. Tickets are still available to buy on ParentPay, £2.00 each. Everyone attending the concert will need a ticket. On Monday we will let you know if there are any tickets remaining. The orders have now closed for the party-style lunch for Tuesday. Due to the sound engineer being in school setting up in the hall, the children are all eating their lunch in the classrooms on Tuesday.

Bishop Mark will be joining us on Wednesday morning to officially open the spiritual space – the happy hut – and the nursery. The happy hut is something our current ethos team, as well as last year’s, have been planning. The pupils will be welcoming Bishop Mark to St. Stephen’s.

It’s next Saturday, 24th January, that a group of us are in school building welly racks. If you are able to spare an hour or two please let the office staff know.

    Have a lovely weekend
