Skills covered through outdoor learning

Exploring and discovering – Involves finding out about the environment and seasonal changes, including taking part in outdoor and adventurous activities, nature work and the John Muir Award at Y5/6.

Creating – Includes using natural materials for arts and crafts, story/poetry writing in the environment and imaginative activities.

Applying – Provides children with the opportunity to make links to their cross curricular themes in the outdoor environment.

Growing and Cooking – Involves children growing flowers, plants, vegetables and fruits in the school garden and using there for art and cooking projects.

Team Building – Involves taking part in games and outdoor & adventurous activities which promote team work and problem solving, this includes learning orienteering.

Investigating – Provides children with opportunities to apply science and technology knowledge and skills in the outdoor environment.
