Year 1
Children should be reading books at orange or turquoise level and accessing Project X Level 5-7. Children should pass the Y1 phonics test and be able to read the Y1 high frequency word list. They listen attentively to stories, poems and non-fiction books. They should make predictions and discuss facts, characters and events. Children should be able to retell a familiar story. They can find facts and answer literal questions from short texts they can read. They are starting to express opinions about likes/dislikes and characters being good/bad.
