Children should be reading at dark blue or dark red levels and accessing Project X Level 16 and above. Children are reading longer texts and chapter books, they can explain a character’s motives throughout a story and use evidence from the text to back up opinions. They can discuss figurative language. Children can access a wide range of non-fiction topic texts and retrieve and collate key ideas and information from a range of sources. They skim and scan non-fiction texts to speed up research. They explore texts to support and justify predictions and opinions.
