Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to Year 6!  It is so good to have the children back sitting in groups this year.  I am very excited to be sharing your child's final year at St Stephen's with you all.  Keep checking out our Class Page to see some of the exciting activities we have been up to so far this year.

Homework: Our homework is set on Tuesdays to be returned the following Tuesday. We use the CPG Comprehension books and the Year 6 Mathematics 10 minute test books. The pages to be completed will be posted on Dojo. We also have weekly spellings to learn on Spelling Shed. Please email or message Mr Lawrenson on dojo if you have forgotten your log in details!

P.E: Our PE day is Friday, so that means that on that day, we can come to school in our PE kits so that we are ready for our lessons in the afternoon! During the second half term of Autumn, Spring and Summer, we also have PE on a Wednesday afternoon with Rees Sports.

Reading: We will be sending copies of fiction and nonfiction books from our brand new reading scheme home every day.  The expectation is that the children read for a minimum of three times per week and the reading diary is signed and brought back into school every day.  Reading books will be changes on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  Every child who reads for three different times in the week, will be awarded a raffle ticket, which will be entered into the class prize draw at the end of every half term.

We also read in class at the start of the afternoon every day.  During this time every child will take part in a weekly guided reading session.  Our library is well stocked with a good range of books from new titles to old favourites!

This year all of our English work is based on high quality texts, guaranteed to ignite our imagination!  We have already completed work based on Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes and War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.

If you have any further questions or concerns regarding Year 6, please message Mr L on dojo or email him on slawrenson@ststephensastley.org.uk
