Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We started the week with Y6 going to Hoghton Tower on Monday as they completed their Elizabethan topic. After school on Monday, our football team played their first match against Garrett Hall. The team lost, but I’ve been told that the boys played well. Well done to Liam Harvey, Harry Hart, Kyle Jones, Ollie Smith, Jack Murray, Harrison Teale, Sonny Corrigan, Harvey Shepherd, Charlie Badrock and Paul Davies. Yesterday Miss Parkinson took her class to Bedford High School for a session using Scratch. Scratch is a programming language and an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Following the session Miss Parkinson received this message from Mr Smedley at Bedford High, “Thank you so much for coming in today. What a wonderful class you have. They are a credit to you both and St Stephen’s” Well done Year 5. I am really proud of you. My Headteacher’s awards have gone to year 1 and Year 4 today. Congratulations!
Have a lovely week-end.
This week we have welcomed Alfie into our Reception class.
On Wednesday Mr. Dawson, Headteacher from St. Mary’s High School, met up with our Y6 pupils. On Thursday the Infants had their 2nd Window on the World assembly. We used a story about a dormouse and an owl to start to explore our current value, wisdom. I have talked to the Infants about having Infant House Captains. In the coming weeks we will be selecting some Captains from Year 2.
Today my Headteacher’s Awards have gone to Y2 and Y6. I have been pleased to see the maturity of the children in Year 2. Year 6 have been making a real effort to keep the area outside their classroom tidy and clutter-free. Thank you.
I realise some of the children have not gained places in the After School Clubs this half-term. We are fortunate that a number of staff provide a variety of clubs, though all clubs do have to have a maximum number.
Have a lovely week-end.
Yesterday morning Jasmine and Charlie (our ATSA Sports leaders) joined Mr. Puckey and myself at the School Games Mark presentation at Lowton High School. We were treated to a performance by the Anglican Youth Fellowship Choir of Uganda. Charlie and Jasmine proudly received the award from Holly Lam-Moores, a member of the women’s handball team at London 2012 Olympics. Well done everyone. Particular thanks to Mr. Puckey for his hard work organising our sports events, and all the staff who support the children at the events.
The children have settled quickly back into the school routines this week. On Thursday the Infant children had their first Window on the World assembly. In this assembly the children sit in their house groups with a member of staff. Throughout the assembly they have the opportunity to reflect on a theme and apply it to themselves. This week we were all considering the mark we can make on 2017. This is the poem we shared in Window on the World:
The New year lies before you
Like a spotless tract of snow
Be careful how you tread on it
For every mark will show.
Letters should have come home now about the After School Clubs, which all start next week. On Wednesday 18th January refreshments will be served in Church before the service. Rector Martin will be joining us.
I have received a message from a resident on Coldalhurst Lane asking if parents could please park considerately when dropping off/picking up children from school.
Enjoy the week-end.
