  • Update 15.10.21

    Fri 15 Oct 2021

We have had another great week in school. I have managed to spend some time in Years 2 and 6 this week and am so impressed with how hard the children are working. They have made a great start to the school year. We have just one week left now before we break up for half –term on Friday 22nd October.

This week a group of our Y5 and 6 pupils took part in the Council’s Big Listening Festival. They were asked about their local area, health and wellbeing, personal safety, the environment and their plans for the future. The staff who came were so impressed with their confidence throughout the discussion. Well done to: Isabelle, Lola, Callum, Oliver, Noah, Bradley, Seren and Emma.

Next week there is a session for Y5 and 6 parents regarding the puberty sessions with Happy Healthy Kids. This is taking place on Wednesday 20th October at 2.15pm in the hall. Please return the slip to school if you are able to join us for the session.

Please note the dates for your opportunity to talk to your child’s teacher after the half-term break:

    Y5 Thursday 4th November

    Y3 Friday 5th November

    Y6 Monday 8th November

    Y2 Tuesday 9th November

    Reception Wednesday 10th November

    Y1 Thursday 11th November

    Y4 Friday 12th November

There will be appointments all through the day, and these can either be face to face appointments or on the telephone. Information will be coming home next week about booking your appointments.

    Have a lovely weekend.

  • Update 8.10.21

    Fri 08 Oct 2021

We come to the end of another busy week in school. A couple of things to bring to mention:

*Could I remind you that any messages regarding absence and pupil illness are to go directly to the school office and not the teaching staff. That way we can ensure messages are followed up swiftly and absences are recorded accurately.

*Can I also draw your attention to our revised relationships policy on the website. You will find it in the policy section. In the first instance I ask that you read the policy and any documents in the Curriculum PSHE section of the website, and give any feedback.

Thank you to everyone for their generous contributions for our harvest collection for the Foodbank. Last time our goods weighed 99kg. This time they weighed a staggering 201kg. Well done everyone! On Monday our Y6 hockey team took part in the first ATSA event of this school year. Mr Lawrenson tells me the team played really well and displayed great sportsmanship. They reached the final, where they narrowly lost to Holy Family. Well done to the team – Oliver, Emma, Matthew, Seren, Darcey, Lynden, Finlay and Daniel. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

  • Update 1.10.21

    Fri 01 Oct 2021

It has been so lovely to see a number of our families in school this week for our assemblies. Thank you so much to you all for your generosity – whether that is providing cakes for the coffee mornings, goods for our harvest collection for the Foodbank or buying cakes and drinks. At the last count £229.15 has been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. This morning Rector Martin joined some of our Reception families for their Welcome Service. Well done to the pupils for bravely standing up to say hello. Next Monday after school we welcome Mr Dawson and Mr Peachey and some of our past pupils from St. Mary’s High School. This will be a Q & A session for our families in Years 5 & 6. Please book a place via enquiries@admin.astleysaintstephens.wigan.sch.uk. Also after school on Monday we have a year 6 team taking part in a hockey competition. Good luck to them. Next Friday, 8th October, is Hello Yellow Day, World Mental Health Day. We will be using this as an opportunity to discuss mental health and wellbeing . On this day we are inviting the children to wear something yellow with their uniform – for example socks/ a bobble/ t-shirt etc. It is not a non-uniform day – more a day to add something yellow (if possible) to what they wear on Friday. Have a lovely weekend.
