We come to the end of another busy week at St. Stephen’s. On Tuesday I spent the day with our School Improvement Partner looking how things are progressing in school 12 months on from Inspection and identifying areas for development. I will send home some information soon about the areas in our school development plan. The day also included a conversation with a group of pupils about the curriculum. Some of our older pupils spoke confidently about our unique curriculum and all that the school has to offer. A big thank you to the group: Kiera, Josh, Anna, Luke, Aidan and Olivia. The coffee morning was a huge success this morning. Thank you to everyone who sent in cake donations, bought cakes and came along to our Infant Celebration Assembly. An amazing £451 has been raised today for MacMillan & Childhood Cancer. To raise awareness of Childhood Cancer we have decorated some of our fence outside school. Thank you to Miss Quinn and art club who helped us with this. Have a lovely week-end.

  • A few things to note

    Wed 27 Sep 2017

A number of Y5 & 6 parents came along this afternoon to the session with Joanne from Happy Healthy Kids ahead of the children’s sessions. If anyone missed the session and would like a quick overview of the sessions, then please call in at the office for an information sheet. On Friday we are holding a Coffee morning for MacMillan and Childhood Cancer. It would be great if you could bake or buy some cakes and send them into school by Friday morning. Once you have dropped your children off on Friday morning you are very welcome to join us in the hall from 9.00am for a drink and piece of cake. At 9.30am the Infant children have their Celebration assembly too. Why not stay with us for that? Sharon has already been busy baking some gingerbreads for Childhood Cancer Awareness month. The children loved them. Thanks Sharon! A reminder from Mr Puckey - all the Juniors need their kits and trainers in school tomorrow for the House Cross Country competition.

Thank you to everyone who came to Church on Wednesday afternoon. It was lovely to have so many friends and family members with us as we officially welcomed our new Reception children in to the family of St. Stephen’s. This afternoon we welcomed Michael James USA into school as he worked with our Year 6 pupils. We all really enjoyed the concert at the end of the afternoon. Tomorrow our Year 6 pupils are all invited to join Michael in a concert in school. The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7.50 for adults (£5.00 if your child is performing in the concert) and free for children. If last year’s concert is anything to go by, it will be a great night. You should have received a letter about the MacMillan Coffee morning we are holding in school next Friday. Why not pop in once you have dropped your child off for school? I would like to remind everyone that the children should be arriving at school just before the morning bell at 8.55am. The gates are locked at 9.00am. There are still a number of children arriving after this time. This causes a disruption to the office and delays the start of lessons. Please make every effort to arrive in school on time. If you have not returned your data collection sheet, please do so at the beginning of next week. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

  • Please can you help?

    Wed 20 Sep 2017
On Thursday last week one of our Year 4 pupils came to school in a new coat (see the pictures) he had received for his birthday that morning. Unfortunately at the end of the day the coat was missing. This is causing a lot of upset, and it would be greatly appreciated if everyone could double-check at home. I would love to be able to ensure this birthday present is returned. Many thanks for your help with this. Mrs Southern

Today my Headteacher’s Awards have gone to Reception and Year 4. Our Reception class have been true superstars this week settling in very well. Our Year 4 pupils have shown real maturity this week. Well done to you all! Our Year 3 pupils have had a busy week this week and started rehearsals for ‘Cinderella’ with Bedford High School in December. On Wednesday afternoon next week we have a special service in Church to welcome our Reception pupils. It would be lovely to see as many family members there as possible. Refreshments will be available at the back of Church before the service. On Friday we are looking forward to welcoming Michael James into school to rehearse with our Year 6 pupils. This is ahead of the concert on Saturday 23rd September at 7.30pm in the school hall. Tickets are available at a price of £7.50 for adults, free for children. On Friday 29th September we are holding a MacMillan Coffee morning in school at 9.00am. Hope you can join us. All children from Reception to Year 4 should have brought home a letter regarding the flu nasal vaccination. Forms need to be returned to school by Tuesday 19th September. Today we have said goodbye to Mr Jardine, one of our mid-day assistants. We wish him all the best in his new job. Have a great week-end.

It has been great to see everyone back in school this week, and to meet our new pupils. I have been really impressed by the way our Reception pupils have settled into school. We had a surprise visit from the firemen in their fire engine yesterday! Our Reception children were just about to start their afternoon when the rest of school calmly evacuated the building as the fire alarm sounded. Well done everyone! All was well in school. A newsletter has come home today giving lots of information. Please take time to read it. I have received an email again about parking around school. Could I please ask that you are considerate in your parking and do not block driveways. I would really appreciate your support with this matter. I hope you have a lovely week-end. We are looking forward to having our Reception pupils in school full-time next week.
