  • Start of term

    Sun 19 Apr 2020

A strange start to the new term – at home! The teachers will continue to add work and activities to their class pages on the website and dojo. We fully appreciate how sometimes this is really difficult, when you are working from home at the same time. There is no expectation that everything is completed- we just ask that you do what you can. It would help the children to do a reading activity and some writing and maths each day when possible. Enjoy this time together. Keep posting work in your child’s portfolios. We love seeing what you are up to. Here’s a photo to make you smile. She loves dressing up – so decided to dress up in her uniform because she is missing school so much. So are we! We might be apart at the moment- but we are all here for you. Have a good week. Take care and stay safe.

  • Hello

    Fri 17 Apr 2020

    Good afternoon everyone,

I’m sure the news last night was not what you wanted to hear, but what you expected to hear. We must all continue to follow the government guidance for another 3 weeks:

    • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
    • If you go out, stay 2m away from other people at all times
    • Wash your hands as soon as you get home
    • Do not meet others, even friends or family

Schools remain closed for the majority of pupils until further notice. Every child who can safely be cared for at home should be, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. Thank you to all our families for supporting us with this. We have had a very small minority of children in school with a small number of staff. It is not school as any of us know it. The only way to manage it is in the school hall with tables 2m apart. Should anyone need to contact me then please message me on dojo, facebook or via email at enquiries@admin.astleysaintstephens.wigan.sch.uk

From Monday 20th April, the teachers will continue to set work- and this can be found on the class page on the website and on dojo. I appreciate that this is a very challenging time for everyone – especially the children. We too would have preferred to have been returning to school on Monday for the start of the final term of 2019/20. Let’s all remain positive and be thankful for all we have. I’ve added some tips on how we can all get through this. Please continue to follow the guidance and we will then hopefully be back together in school sooner rather than later.

Take care everyone. Stay safe. Enjoy the beautiful weather, and don’t forget about Mr. Puckey’s photo competition.

  • End of term

    Fri 03 Apr 2020

We come to the end of the Spring term. A most unusual end to the term- not having been in school together now for almost 3 weeks. As we started the term in January, none of us could ever have expected this. Self-isolation, social distancing, working from home wherever possible and only making essential journeys. We all appreciate how difficult these times are trying to juggle family life, work, worries about keeping jobs and then add to that home learning. We realise that this brings it’s challenges – accessing the work, devices to access the internet and printing for a start. The staff have worked hard finding ways to make learning from home accessible for all. We review this all the time. A couple of parents have asked about using Zoom. The Senior Leaders discussed this at the start of the week and decided, for safeguarding reasons, it is not something we will be doing . You will be pleased to know that the staff will not be sending home work suggestions over the next two weeks, as we start what would have been the Easter holidays. School will be closed for the two weeks. In the middle of this we should hear from the government regarding future plans. A big thank you to everyone for their support in these challenging circumstances. Keep safe everyone.
