  • Update 27.11.20

    Fri 27 Nov 2020

Thank you everyone for your continued support in keeping school a safe place. We have just 3 weeks left this term, and I ask that everyone remains vigilant and continues to follow the guidance as we move back in to tier 3 next week. As far as school is concerned, things remain the same. Please do continue to follow the one-way system set up (ie walk towards school via the path on your left as you come on to the school site/ or up the driveway, and leave via the path near Church.) The children are asked ideally to arrive at the most 5 minutes before their start time to avoid any overlap with classes, and avoid being late wherever possible. All adults coming on site are reminded to stay 2m apart from people you do not live with when you are waiting outside school. An updated version of the risk assessment has been uploaded to the website.

Increased ventilation can make the classrooms cooler than usual at the moment. It is still important that the children wear school uniform, but you are welcome to send your child in with an extra layer under their uniform or a red zip-up fleece (plain or with logo).

I have asked those children using bikes and scooters if they can please show consideration to everyone by getting off them as they arrive at the bottom of the pathway and walk with them to the store. Again, at the end of the day, they are asked to walk with them to the bottom of the path.

Stay safe and enjoy the weekend everyone.

  • Update 22.11.20

    Sun 22 Nov 2020

This week saw the return of our Year 5 class. It was lovely to have them back in school with us. Again, they did a great job with their remote learning. Well done everyone! We thank everyone for their continued support in these very uncertain times. Please let us know if there is anything we can help with.

We have been lucky enough to receive a community donation from the new Cross Hillocks Coop which is opening tomorrow, 23rd November. Mrs Pickford has arranged to use this donation for the benefit of all the pupils with some well-being sessions. On Thursday afternoon our Junior pupils are going to take part in a Magic Mindset Workshop, where they will work through several activities to come to their Magic Word or Mantra. Their word will be put on a postcard and given to the children. The Infants will have a session of giggles on Friday afternoon. This will also involve a colouring competition. These sessions, with Louby Lou, are taking place virtually, and we are looking into how we can ensure that any children who are self-isolating get access to them. Thanks to the Coop for the generous donation, and to Mrs Pickford for organising these for us.

As we start to think about Advent and the lead up to Christmas we have a few plans – but please bear with us as we may need to adapt them. Things are very different this year. We start Advent by having a non-uniform day on Tuesday 1st December. For this we are inviting you to send in an item (chocolates/ sweets/ toys/ games/ tins/ packets/ toiletries). These are then going to be distributed to local charities/ families in our community. Like at Harvest- there will be boxes at the school entrances for the collection. Look out for details coming home soon about a Christmas Draw – similar to the raffle we usually hold at the Carol Services.

    Take care everyone.

  • Update 13.11.20

    Fri 13 Nov 2020

What a great day we have had in school today – everyone has looked fabulous in their pyjamas! Thank you so much to our year 6 class who carried out the draw for Children in Need this morning. Congratulations to all the winners – the top prizes of Pudsey and Blush bears have been won by Noah, Bobby, Freya and Halle. A special mention must go to Deacon in Y2 who raised £120 for Children in Need doing the duck race. Well done Deacon! So far as a school we have raised almost £450. We will let you know the final total once we have had the contributions from Y5 after their pyjama day next week.

Today you will have received information about Christmas dinner. For those children who don’t usually have a school dinner, please ensure all orders for the Christmas dinner and the Christmas party lunchbag are placed by next Friday 20th November. This will help Sharon with the ordering.

Next week is Anti-Bullying Week – United Against Bullying. We are going to start off the week by joining in Odd Sock Day on Monday. The children are invited to come to school wearing odd socks as we celebrate we are all unique. Throughout the week we will focus on being kind face to face and online.

I have been asked about Christmas cards. Can we please ask that cards are not brought in before 1st December? From this date there will be a postbox in each classroom. The last date for cards to come into school is Monday 14th December. Cards will remain in the postbox, and given to the children at the end of the week to open at home. We would really appreciate your support with this.

My final note is to mention that there is an envelope coming home next week. In the envelope there will be your child’s data collection sheet to check, parentpay log-in details and your child’s photograph.

Have a lovely weekend, and I will see you on Monday.

  • Update 6.11.20

    Fri 06 Nov 2020
It was lovely to welcome everyone back on Monday after the half-term break. Herbie was very excited to greet everyone! Thank you to everyone who has supported the poppy appeal this week by buying the slapbands, wrist bands, reflectors and zip pulls. They will continue to be on sale until Remembrance Day. Our Year 6 pupils are inviting everyone to come to school in their pyjamas next Friday and pay £1.00 for Children in Need. There is also going to be a raffle. Herbie enjoyed a few minutes in year 2 this afternoon. In all the excitement he lost a tooth!  Have a lovely weekend.
